Thoughts on Web Privacy

Here's an interview with Kenneth Corbin at InternetNews.com that lays out some of our thinking about privacy.  As Jules Polonetsky said in the interview, "I think the key thing for both consumers and businesses is that there are clear rules in place that so it's obvious to consumers what's happening, and that there are clear rules for businesses about what's appropriate and what's not appropriate. Don't use sensitive profiles. Don't keep data forever. Give people the ability to opt out!"

I am sick and tired of having to opt out. Why should I be subject to anyone assuming I want to be in. If i or others want to be in then they can apply. Opt out is an unnecessary burden on the readers. Lets get them to op in if they wish to be receive futher info. Some sites have you opt out so they can confirm that their message has been received but then don't remove your name.

This idea of opt in and opt out needs to be clarified so that users aren't being overwhelmed with material they didn't ask for.
